One of the main reasons you started your business is that you are an expert in your field. This gave you the confidence to open the doors to your business. Along the way, you realized your expertise did not translate to other business fields (i.e. Marketing and Bookkeeping). No one can be an expert at everything. Trying to do everything yourself can force you to loose your purpose, direction, and even joy. Before you get overwhelmed, you need to look at your business model and determine the team members you need for your success.

Don’t forget, your most important role as a solopreneur is to be a tradesman. That role is what will generate word of mouth advertising and repeat customers. The problem is that if you only focus on that role, you will have a lot of problems. Some examples to demonstrate this is:

• The IRS will have a problem with you not maintaining your books
• No one will find out about your business without sales / marketing

This is where your team comes into play. For every aspect of of your business that you are not an expert in, your future will thank you for choosing team members to fill those skill gaps. The world needs you at your best. Maintain a sense of self-care and don’t try and do it all yourself.
